LETTERS: Get US out of the UN.

Allowing a foreign nation command over the people of the United States and its military could be such a circumstance in which Philosopher John Locke prescribes as a reason for citizens to revolt.

Thankfully no violent revolutions have occurred, but since accepting membership into the United Nations on July 28, 1945, Americans have placed varying degrees of individual liberty, property rights, and even our own military into the hands of the foreign kings.

International adjudication, and the beginning of the decline of US sovereignty, traces back to the first Pan-American Conference in 1889-1890. Although no attending countries ratified this hemispheric agreement of arbitration, many began to put forth that the idea of an international community was inevitable. A few years later in 1896, we refused to ratify the Olney-Pauncefote treaty. Aimed towards outlawing war between the US and Britain, the Senate based its rejection on the argument that without an “unqualified right to appeal to arms, no nation can be independent.”

In 1920, the Senate again turned back the globalists' agenda by refusing entrance into the League of Nations. But just 25 short years later, the US entered the UN. Since 1945, the United States has been involved in multilateral military engagements in Korea, Vietnam, Kuwait, and most recently Libya.

Before committing US troops to Libya, President Obama was so bold and so indifferent to our sovereignty and Constitution that he ignored Congress and failed to ask for consent. Instead he consulted with international bodies such as the UN and NATO.

As the US increasingly yields power to the UN through Executive Order and international peacekeeping missions, the internationalists have continued to seriously expand the reach of its global agenda.

According to the UN website, “Agenda 21 is a comprehensive plan of action to be taken globally, nationally and locally by organizations of the United Nations System, Governments, and Major Groups in every area in which human impacts on the environment.”

In reality, this United Nations program lays out a comprehensive plan of sustainable development locally, nationally, and globally in every area where humans affect the environment. Basically it’s the UN’s plan to eliminate property rights and establish control over all human activity, including our reputed contribution to climate change.

Although, the US Senate refuses to codify such a sweeping agenda, the UN initiatives are passed in small bits through state and local governments, usually with harmless sounding labels such as “sustainable development,” open spaces,” or “environmental protection.” In addition to local and state government involvement, UN Agenda 21 has been slowly advanced through Presidential pledges and Executive Orders from at least three different administrations belonging to both major political parties.

President George H.W. Bush signed a pledge to adopt the the UN's Agenda 21 at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development. In 1995, President Bill Clinton, in compliance with Agenda 21, signed an Executive Order to “harmonize” US environmental policy with UN directives.

Clinton's order directed all agencies of the Federal Government to work with state and local community governments in a joint effort “reinvent” government using UN guidelines. On March 15, 2012, President Obama has released an Executive Order establishing a White House Council on Strong Cities, Strong Communities in accord with the UN's objective to turn America into a controlled country under their global governance.

As a result, with the assistance of groups like ICLEI, Sustainable Development is now emerging as government policy in every town, county and state in the nation, including our own local communities.

As we become more involved in the global agenda of the United Nations, our Constitution, particularly the Bill of Rights, becomes increasingly less relevant. It's time to reverse this trend and demand that our state legislatures dismantle any UN Agenda 21 initiatives and that our Congress pass legislation to get us out of the UN.
