Newt Gingrich and "The Third Wave"

Newt Gingrich amazingly continues to climb in the polls despite all the reasons he would be a bad president. So with this resurgence Newt's past is going to be subject to more scrutiny. So what exactly in Newt's past should we be concerned about....something a little further back than all those previously mentioned reasons.

Newt Gingrich has given high praise for Alvin Toffler's "The Third Wave" and as Speaker of the House gave a list of recommended books of which "The Third Wave" was among them. Newt did not just like some of the things Toffler had to say in "The Third Wave" he bought it hook line and sinker so much so he wrote the forward to Toffler's book "Creating a New Civilization"

So what was so great about "The Third Wave"? Well here is a sampling of the content contained in that particular piece of literature.

Toffler wrote a letter to our “Founding Parents” stating “The system of government you fashioned, including the very principles on which you based it, is increasingly obsolete, and hence increasingly, if inadvertently, oppressive and dangerous to our welfare. It must be radically changed and a new system of government invented – a democracy for the 21st century.” According to Toffler, our constitutional system is one that “served us so well for so long, and that now must, in its turn, die and be replaced.”

Also this sentiment from Toffler also might lend to why Newt seems to not have a problem with fidelity in his marriages.

"The book describes our society as entering a post-industrial phase in which abortion, homosexuality, promiscuity, and divorce are perfectly normal, even virtuous."

Newt also made this statement in 1995 in a speech at the Center for Strategic and International Affairs:

“The American challenge in leading the world is compounded by our Constitution,” he said. “Under our [constitutional system] — either we’re going to have to rethink our Constitution, or we’re going to have to rethink our process of decision-making.” He went on to profess an oxymoronic belief in “very strong but limited federal government,” and pledged, “I am for the United Nations.”

Nothing I have posted here is anything new and can be easily found on the internet (based on these pieces of literature mentioned and Newt's own words). I am posting it here for the easy reference of the readership of this blog.
