Derek Nance Trial Update
Derek Nance’s trial has been continued to October. It will be a four day jury trial starting on Monday, October 13th. The next pretrial hearing for both Derek and JoAnn will take place on Friday, May 9th at 8:30 a.m. in the Circuit Courthouse on the corner of Main and Limestone in Lexington. Judge Travis is typically in Courtroom D on the 2nd floor. Parking garages are around the corner on Barr Street and across Main Street at the library.
Derek and JoAnn very much appreciate the moral support, we believe having supporters in the gallery changes the perceptions of both the judge and prosecutor, and witnessing the hearings (especially the post-hearing debriefs with defense attorney Kelly Kilgore) have been an exceptionally interesting learning experience. Please consider attending.
Great Dog Needs Good Home: Updated with cat interactions and contact info!

From Dawn’s friend Charles Riggs, who knows a lot about dogs, having rescued and adopted many over the years. He currently has five of his own and is fostering this girl. I (Dawn) have come to respect and take his recommendations seriously.
Charles says:
“This sweet little Rottweiler needs a new home, and she really deserves a great home. She’s about five or six years old, has never had pups. The people who owned her died, and their son can’t keep her.
She was responsive to everything I asked of her and even let me trim her nails. She displayed a lot of trust and was very cooperative. I’d be happy to keep her, but she really deserves to be in a home with somebody she can bond with.
No papers, as far as I know. Still needs to be fixed. Her temperament is perfect. She did really well on the meet and greet with my dogs. Only downside I saw was she’s never been around cats, and she had a real strong reaction to seeing mine.
News on the cat interaction as of today: She’s not as reactive. Interested and observant but investigating rather than provoking them. The big confident elder male she watches and sniffs as he passes but leaves it at that. Initially there was a lot of prey drive; now there’s more co-existence. She learns fast!
She is everything I love about Rottweilers— courage, loyalty, intelligence, cheerfulness, devotion, strength, agility. They served as work dogs with the Romans during the days of the empire. Excellent family dogs, natural guardians.
The only thing about Rottweilers that you need to know is they need to respect their owner and to accept their leadership. You can’t be a softy with a Rottweiler, you have to be a leader.
She is five to 6 years old, 80 to 85 pounds, and in good shape.
Anyone interested in arranging a meet or learning more about this great dog should contact Charles, who is currently fostering her in Frankfort, on his cell at 502-320-9807.

When you think about priorities, food, shelter and medicine are at the top of the list. Thursday, we will focus on food, and we are honored to be joined by Josh Wesftall, who along with his wife Stacey and some like-minded investors, decided to open a USDA meat processing plant in Lawrenceburg. This enormous venture was conceived of during the COVID lockdowns and is the result of their desire to bring sustainable meat processing that is geared toward the small family farm to the under-served Central Kentucky region.
The Westfalls and this enterprise need and deserve our support, and we need them, so please come to learn about what they have to offer and how you can help ensure their success.

Want Real, Nutrient-Dense Food? Join us in the Kentucky Food Independence Club!
Kentucky agriculture remains the foundation of our culture: raising/growing nutrient dense food for home and/or market, maintaining strong family ties, respect for property, and a strong work ethic.
Our Mission is to connect Kentucky’s “real food” farmers to educated consumers. Real health begins with clean food. As more and more of us wake up to this fact, we see an increase in consumers wanting to leave behind unhealthy practices and jump in with local "real food" farmers!
What’s a real food farmer? By “real food”, we mean NUTRIENT DENSE food raised and/or grown as close to the earth and as naturally as possible. Like:
Non-GMO or organic feed
Pastured livestock on unsprayed fields
Grass-fed cattle, mostly grass-finished but occasionally some grain-on-grass-finished, as long as the grain is non-GMO or organic and the cattle continue to live on pasture with the sun shining on their backs.
Pastured milk cows - supplemented soy-free grains while milking to keep the cows happy and standing still
Unsprayed hay
Organic gardening practices
Regenerative soil practices
The KY Food Independence Club (KFIC) is a private membership food buying club featuring healthy food provided by Ky farmers. It’s like an online grocery only all the food is REAL & healthy. Nutrient dense foods like…
farm fresh raw milk & dairy products (butter, cream, yogurt, cottage cheese, sour cream and more)
raw milk cheeses
pastured eggs
grass-fed, pastured meats
organic sourdough bread & other baked goods
local honey
